Minton Parian pair of figures known as the Grape Bearers


Minton Parian figures known as the ‘grape bearers’ (pair) shape 312 and 313. DATE 1865. Tip of thumb broken on one figure, chip to cymbal of the other. Modelled by Albert Carrier de elleuse, a French sculptor who came to England in 1845 as a Minton modeller and instructor at the Potteries School of Design. Became Art Director at Sevres but continued to supply designs to Minton on a freelance capacity and gave Minton sole rights on his designs produced in England.
